If you're on the search for a couch, you may find yourself wondering whether to buy fabric or leather and rightfully so, choosing a couch should be a well thought out decision. You have to consider a lot of factors when purchasing this piece of furniture, that you hope will last you a lifetime.
So, let's get into it: should you buy fabric or leather? There's really no right answer to this question. The best approach is to look at the pros and cons of both and then decide.
When it comes to versatility and options, fabric couches have it by the dozens. You can choose from a variety of colors, patterns, fabrics, and shapes. Be sure to pick a couch with strong fabric and frame to ensure the couch looks good and lasts longer.
Leather couches are durable and will last you for years. They are also pretty low maintenance; you just have to keep the leather moist to prevent peeling off.
If you own a pet, leather might be more durable than fabric as it won't retain the pet hair nor be affected as easily as the fabric will be by scratches. However, if you have an unruly pet, the scratches will be difficult to fix. The same applies to children, the fabric will stain, while leather won't, and if it does, simply wiping it with a reliable cleaner will fix the problem.
When it comes to the upkeep and cleaning, with leather, you only need to wipe it down with a damp cloth or some leather cleaner. But you also have to maintain it by regularly moisturizing it to keep it looking good. With fabric, the maintenance is easy, you just have to be up for cleaning it quite frequently. You also need to steam clean your fabric couch at least once a year to ensure it lasts longer.
Leather, although more limiting in terms of options when it comes to styling, is the better option if you're looking for a couch that will stand the test of time. A quality leather sofa will keep its shape and look good for years to come.
Another common concern is the temperature of the couch. Fabric is considered warmer in winter than leather because leather couches always match the room temperature. This is however not a train smash and can be easily solved by putting a throw on the leather.
So, when it comes to this choice, it's not about right or wrong, just what you think will be the right fit, depending on your needs and preference.
